Life can be a bowl of cherries.

Or it can be a bowl of yarn.

Yarn has no pits!

Sometimes, I feel like a run on sentence – I am an American Dog-Owning Jewish Knitter Lawyer Woman Wife – so which is it? What order? You can’t aways be alphabetical. There are times in my life when I definitely feel more Woman than anything else – indeed, in college I was Womyn with a “y” and frankly, I don’t even remember why – I know it had something to do with being a feminist, but now my feminism isn’t defined by anything as simple as spelling (I think, although it’s hazy, that it had something to do with taking the “man” out of “woman”). During the Gulf War, and while I was emersed in my fourth year of Hebrew at Penn State, I was a Jewish American Woman. Other times, I’ve definitely been a proud American Jew – on 9/11, during Yom Kippur, and services began with The Star Spangled Banner – I was definitely wearing my stars and stripes over my Star of David. And now, a week after our wedding, I’m really digging the Wife thing.

But, there was a time, right after 9/11, in fact, that I returned to knitting, and I became a Knitter – I Knit, Therefore I am, I guess. It was more than a craft, but a way I defined myself. During that time, I amassed a stash that will last me well into the next decade, a collection of knits, most of which I’m proud, co-hosted a now defunct podcast, had my first retail job at Rosie’s, and met a lot of wonderful, creative people — people who also introduced themselves as “knitter.”

But, as I tried to explain when I started this new blog, and moved away from my original blog, Knit and the City, I’ve returned to being more of the jumble of descriptors rather than just one, and maybe I’m a jumble of a person, and knitting again has become a hobby rather than a definition.

But, I’d still rather have a bowl of yarn than a bowl of cherries, and knitting will always have a place in this blog, and I hope to share many a finished object with you in the years to come.
